It's official, Alpin is crawling. Actual crawling, not plowing his head across the floor, and not worming and scootching like a caterpillar. He can even get himself to a sitting position on his own now. He hasn't gotten into too much trouble yet, but I'm sure things are about to get really interesting in this house.
Don't believe me? Check out the video.

Sunny Chico
We trekked up to Chico for a long weekend, with an objective to relax, sleep in, and enjoy the sunny warm weather. I think we did pretty darn well on all fronts. Plus we saw lots of family and friends while we were there, which is such a treat. Alps spent a lot of time practicing crawling on the brand new living room carpet. He would get up on his hands and knees and rock back and forth, then up on his hands and feet. He is getting so close, just needs to reconcile what his upper body and lower body are doing, and coordinate the efforts.
He also had his first swims in the pool, loving it of course. It gave him a good excuse to flap his arms and kick his legs, something he does all the time anyways. We even took him underwater and he did really well. We wish we could spend more time in warm weather to swim more often. We'll just have to go up to Chico again soon! It's not too shabby having Grandma and Grandpa babysit while us kids go out on the town at night, either.

6 months old!
Happy 6 month - half year birthday son! We can't believe half a year has already flown by, and our little guy is already progressing into a little man. He weighs in at 14 lbs 5 oz, and 25" long. Last month we took a road trip to Cambria to spend time with Patty and Alexis (and camped one night!) and then went camping in Mendocino for two nights. Lots of exciting adventures!
In the past month Alpin has spent a good amount of time on his hands and knees, rocking back and forth trying to get up momentum to crawl. He has also semi-mastered sitting - he still will fall over if he looks up to far or gets excited about something. Even without crawling he is fully mobile on the floor, scooting and rotating and rolling. He loves standing up and bouncing on his legs, too. Long story short- he's a very active baby.
We introduced rice cereal at 5 months, and Alpin eats it at daycare every day. in the past month he has also had bananas, avocado and carrots. He liked them all, which isn't a surprise since he's such a little piggy. He's teething, drooling and chewing on anything he can get his hands on.
Alpin has such a sweet personality, very chill and mellow, adapting easily to different crowds or different places. He smiles all the time, giggles when Andy gives him raspberries, and talks up a storm. He loves being sung to, and if he's ever super upset we know we can sing him Yellow Submarine and all will be OK.
He also loves other little kids, and will watch them whenever they are around. New to the crew is baby Carson Bidwell Cambra, born on July 2 (Leann's birthday!), Hunter and Jeff's newborn boy. Alpin is so lucky to have so many baby boys his age in our lives.

Mendocino Camping!
Mendocino Headlands |
Andy and I both grew up camping in Mendocino and Fort Bragg, so it only seemed appropriate to take Alpin to Mendocino for his first camping trip. We went to Van Damme State Park with good friends Martin and Rebecca, along with their boy Enzo, who is 20 months old. Alpin was entertained by watching Enzo's antics the whole time. It was fun camping with the kids, definitely a different experience being on kid time. Alpin did great, though. We realized camping with him is really not so hard at all.
Martin and Andy went diving for abalone off Van Damme, while Rebecca and I hung out with the boys on the beach for 2 hours. Luckily their hard work paid off and they came back with their limit of 3 abs each. Eating one fresh for dinner was so delicious, such a treat. We also had time to walk around Mendo and Fort Bragg, and ate good food in town and in camp. I can't wait to go camping again, maybe Hendy Woods in Booneville.
