3 Months Old?

3 months old already? Seriously, where did that time go?  I suppose the delivery room does seem like a long time ago. Our son is already a quarter of a year old, weighing in at 10lbs 2oz. In the last month Alpin worked on developing his hand-eye coordination - he can reach at his hanging toys and grasp his hands and bring them to his mouth, and he is interested in his surroundings more than ever. (His favorite toy is his hands.) Alpin has always been a very alert little guy, and now he is even more engaging and responsive. He smiles all the time and makes wonderful talking noises. His facial expressions are so hilarious to watch, he will go through a dozen expressions in so many seconds. He spends some time on his tummy (which he doesn't love) and can push himself up with his arms. When he is tired of tummy time he can roll back onto his back. He now enjoys baths, most likely due to the rise in temperatures. He also is still sleeping through the night and often during the day. We love taking him everywhere - out to dinner or to grab a drink with friends, to birthday parties, baseball games, the beach, grocery shopping and walks around the neighborhood. He loves being out and about. He became an REI member, courtesy of the co-op. We also read him Dr Suess books, which he enjoys (almost as much as we do.)

Sunny Stinson Beach

Today Alpin and I ventured out to Stinson Beach to meet up with friends. How could we resist with a forecast of sunny in the 90s? We loaded up the BOB stroller and rolled out to meet Chris Von, Fred, Kelly, Jim and Logan (2 years). They all had a nice base camp set up. Luckily Fred and Von were there to save us and help get the BOB across the sand. A nice mom gave us the tip that it's easier to pull than push on the sand (I definitely got my workout for the day). It's probably the warmest weather Alpin's been in, and he did well. Slept a little, ate a lot. Next time we'll need to go when Andy is off work.

Birthday Party!

Alpin went to his first birthday party on Saturday, for his friend Liyam Persing, who turned one. It was also his first time at Lake Temescal, and we could not have asked for better weather. I wish I had a picture, but Liyam put on a great show of eating his birthday cake, starting with dabbling with the finger tips, to dumping the cake onto the grass, then licking the back of the plate while rolling on top of his cake on the grass. I've never witnessed a birthday cake being squashed by a baby bottom - priceless.  Liyam's parents, Oren and Sarah, had a chance to cuddle with Alpin, too. We can't wait for Alpin to be able to play with Liyam!

April Chico Visit

We had a nice long weekend in Chico last week, such a nice vacation in the spring. We took Alpin to his first Chico State Wildcats Baseball game (and my first as well). Also had a nice time just spending the days with family. We went to Kevin and Lauren's BBQ party Saturday night. Great Grandma and Grandpa Reid came for brunch on Sunday. It was so warm outside we gave Alpin his bath in the backyard, and he loved it. Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Leann couldn't get enough of him, we need to visit more often. He's so fun, smiling all the time.

Visits from Jacob

Ngoc, Dave and Jacob came to visit during their trip down from Seattle. It was so exciting to see them, and have them all meet Alpin for the first time. Of course the first thing we did was put Alpin and Jacob together for a photo shoot. I can't wait until they can actually interact together, what fun.

We had a blast with them, and walked to the playground down the street. All of us slid down slides, and Jacob especially was a champ going down the tall one all by himself. He and Andy also built castles with blocks (Jake loves Andy). If only Seattle weren't so far away!

2 Month Highlights

Alpin's second month has been a delight. His world expanded, and he is interested in his surroundings. He sees people and objects, and reaches out towards his hanging toys. He is just discovering his hands and feet. He loves his musical toys as well. The best part is his big smile, that usually makes its appearance when he wakes up in the morning, when he sees mama or papa, and when he's riding in the car. His whole face lights up when he smiles. He also 'talks' and it is wonderful to see the progression. He definitely understands the pattern of conversation - I talk, you talk. He loves being outside, especially on walks, and does great out and about at restaurants or friends houses. He's also sleeping like a champ, he usually sleeps for a 7 hour stretch at night, and then goes back to sleep after eating his midnight snack. We are truly blessed.

Stats at 2 month check up: 8lbs 14.5oz, 22 inches (he's grown 3 inches in two months!)
He can also roll from belly to back.

Here's a little video conversation between Amber and Alpin:
